Finding Disney Magic in New York City

For those of you that have not been keeping up with me on social media (shame on you), you would be surprised to learn that I recently made the move from Washington state to the Big Apple for college.

Since settling in New York City there has been one thing missing: Disney. But never fear, because I set off on the quest to find Disney magic in one of the craziest cities in the world.

So without further ado, here are a few Disney things you can do in NYC.

1.Broadway Shows

NYC1

Obviously this would be the number one pick, because New York is famed for Broadway.

There have been some amazing Disney productions that have come through Broadway through the years including; Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Tarzan and Newsies, to name a few.

Currently there are two award winning Disney shows that you can see: The Lion King and Aladdin.

Although I haven’t had the chance to see The Lion King, this past week I did have the opportunity to see Aladdin, and I can definitely say that all of my wishes were granted.

This production is not only visually stunning, but the entire experience brought a lot of Disney magic, in everything from hearing Disney tunes in the lobby, to all of the amazing merchandise, to the friendly cast members working at the theater.

The show itself was dazzling, with a whole host of new songs and even a few new characters. This production takes all of the magic from the film and makes it into something spectacular.

I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Broadway show, but especially for my fellow Disney fans.

2.The Disney Store

NYC2

Look at this stuff, isn’t it neat?

Want the iconic New York experience with a twist of Disney? Head to The Disney Store, which just happens to be in the heart of Times Square!

Outside there are giant billboards and crowds of people, but inside you are transported to a whole new world (see what I did there?).

The store is two stories, and has all of your favorite merchandise, but it also has a hearty selection of New York exclusives. There is an assortment of tee shirts, pins, and even tsum tsums all dressed in NYC glamor.

Not only that, even the walls give a hint of Disney magic, with hidden characters and iconic quotes all around.

Can you find the silhouette of the Statue of Liberty on the wall? What about a familiar princess?

3. Be on the Look Out

Even though it is New York City, there are quite a few Disney reminders hiding around the corner. When I was walking through Times Square, I noticed a giant billboard advertising for Duck Tales.

Not only that, there are some awesome experiences in the city if you know where to look. I was able to go to an outdoor screening of Enchanted, right next to the One World Trade Center!

Be sure to do a quick Google search to see if there are any Disney-type events happening during your next trip. You never know what you might find!

They did an entire series of New York themed outdoor movies, so of course Enchanted had to be shown!

4. Be Creative

Sometimes it can be difficult to incorporate Disney into a city such as NYC, but it can be done.

It can be something as simple as taking a stroll through Central Park with headphones in and your favorite Disney tune playing that may remind you of the magic you know and love.

Or maybe it is hanging up a piece of Disney art in your apartment (which you can be rest assured that I did).

Either way, wherever you are, don’t be afraid to show your love for Disney, and maybe even become the one spreading the magic!

Before you know it, you will have someone coming up and telling you how much they love Disney too.

There you have it folks! These are just a few of the Disney things you can do if you ever find yourself in the big city.

Let me know down in the comments if you have ever been to New York City, and as always have a magical day!
